A PICTURE OF GARRY Garry Garrett's Homepage

Genealogy

First, let me admit that I know almost nothing about the subject. I'm creating this page so that I can collect information for my family members who are into this.

One word of caution. It's commonplace fore genealogists to take their findings and publish them on their web pages. The benefit is that others who have common ancestors can learn from each other's explorations. However, when doing so, you will want to remove a few of the most recent generations from your web page. Why? You don't want someone to know your mother's maiden name. Often times financial institutions will use this information as a password, to verify that the person calling them is really you and not someone else. If you remove a few of the first generations, you are making someone who wants to impersonate you guess from 15 or 31, etc. names. These most recent ancestors, you probably already know quite a bit about (a number of them may still be alive - and you are publishing their mother's maiden name too you know). It's not like someone you meet over the internet is going to be able to fill you in with that much information about your own grandmother.

Genealogy invariably leads to Travel and to travel you're going to need a Map.
